Malle Moto - The Forgotten Dakar Story

Publicado el 25 dic 2017
They say you only really grow at the very edge of your comfort zone. For the last three years Lyndon Poskitt has been stretching that comfort zone one kilometre at a time. From the safety of corporate existence to the freedom of a motorcycle and the open road to the biggest challenge of his life as he rides 150,000km to take part in the hardest class of the most brutal motor race in the world.

In 2014 Lyndon Poskitt set off from the UK with a simple goal, to ride round the world on his motorcycle and race rallies in every continent he visits. A voyage of discovery? Or escape? As his time on the road grew, along with his hair and confidence, it dawned on Lyndon that as the world has become smaller the idea of adventure has lost it’s way.

Inspired by the early pioneers of exploration and speed, he entered the infamous Dakar Rally, now hosted in South America. Lyndon looked to the pre-commercialised origins of the race where competitors set off with very little assistance or hope of reaching the finish line. To this day, even though the Dakar Rally has outgrown it’s humble origins, it still retains the Malle Moto class for those who seek a pure test of spirit and endurance. One man. One bike. One box of tools. 12 days and 10,000 kilometers of hard racing.

In 2017, as the only competitor to ride to the start line, Lyndon was to discover the limit of his already stretched comfort zone. There would be only one way to discover what lies beyond it…

If you liked this film don't forget that you can watch Lyndons 'Races To Places LIVE' project this January as he attempts to win the 2018 Malle Moto class of the Dakar Rally all whilst being filmed live by his intrepid film crew...

  • This is awesome. I could finish the rally with a $100,000 budget and a team of support vehicles and people.....like so many sports that started in the grassroots, the big race to me has lost it's appeal. THIS however is more like it!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • WOW THAT WAS EYE OPENING

  • Absolutely brilliant, moving, inspiring story. I hope to shake hands with Lyndon some day. Are you back in the UK yet dude?

  • Dam that was badass, these dudes are crazy lol.

  • What a nice and inspiring fella.

  • Just watching this. Enjoyed it, other than when music was on. It was extremely hard to tear what was being said because the music overlay was rather loud.

  • Music is too loud, needs more voice volume. AWESOME STUFF!

  • He seems like a really good descent human being beyond the determination and courage. Glad to see him finish well. In France the malle moto class is still regarded as the origins of Dakar, the real deal. Just like the Vendée Globe for round the World solo sailors. These people are great inspirations.

  • WOW ! - Just WOW !

  • Epic.

  • Totally bad ass. Bloody brilliant. This was awesome... good for you fellow rider friend - cheers!

  • Can someone point me to the filmed series they reference in here please?

    • @adventurespec Cheers - found it since. Am somewhere in season 2. Pretty good, inspired me to get into motto rally and buy an adventure bike (didn't have a license so it's a long road off yet - turns out the UK hasn't really thought of a new way to sort out licenses in the wake of Covid-19 other than "you'll have to wait" :D In the meantime, it's between riding my 125 on the TET or the danger move of grabbing a honda 300rally and hoping the Gestapo are busy elsewhere :D

    • Search Races To Places

  • This is a paradox.. what in God's green earth would cause a man to temporarily replace a complete rest, warm cozy bed, full belly etc.... with everything that is Dakar?? 46:30 Personal note to self... Once you have reached your limit and unknowingly go past it.. there will be no limits to see things through.

  • Nice performance and very emotional video, god look! Congratulations! Great man! Marcelo Brasil!

  • Just brilliant!🏍

  • Great documentary Lyndon. I feeling exactly the same, just looking for a time to ride the bike, that a real passion. What chain did you use for such a long milage covered?

  • What a fantastic story! Thanks Lyndon

  • You are a remarkable person, Lyndon! Well done.

  • Greatest achievement of any man and machine,,, 🙌 cheers from Thailand ....great vdo by the way

  • Congratulations- great story and great video. If you are hard-wired for that type of race, good luck fnding excitement with any other activity!

  • I met Lyndon over breakfast in Montana several years during his Adventure Spec tour. I then tracked his progress and run up to and including the Dakar rally. If Lyndon’s sense of adventure and attitude towards living life doesn’t inspire you, there may be a hole in your soul.

  • Less haste and more speed should be your philosophy when it comes to Enduro riding.

  • You should never try and win an Enduro, you should try to finish an enduro, if you try to win an Enduro you will finish the Enduro in an ambulance.

  • A rider that works on his own bike, the real deal!

  • Good show but the it needs remixing as the music overpowers the voice commentary at times.

  • Great man! Extraordinary good! Inspiration!

  • I used to order the Dakar Video tapes before Christmas to watch the motorcycles racing

  • I did a Half Marathon with the Flu and finished near last position and Bronchitis

  • In French, Malle et moto. Something like “trunk and motorcycle”.

  • HERO!!!!!!

  • What a great story! What a machine of a man. He had the courage to follow his dream, & he is now living his dream. So inspiring

  • please, fix the subtitles. are out of sync for most part of the video

  • The best documentary I've ever seen !!!

  • I just found this...what a top Yorkshire lad you are! Well done Lyndon...very well done👍👍

  • The background music is so loud!!!! Are you advertising the music or the video of Lyndon??

  • Legends are the Malle motors riders..true Dakar!

  • I hate to complain, but why is the background music so loud? Can hardly hear them talking at times.

  • How could 125 people downvote this badassery?!!

  • amazing story, amazing, film! very very inspiring

  • Dakar coverage is so limited it’s nice to see an inside view, great work Lyndon

  • Awesome, there are men then there are real men, you my friend are the latter. you are a legend.

  • Such an inspiration ❤️

  • Came across the video just now. Just great. The choice of letting go of the certainties and going for what boiled down deep inside. Inspirational to say the least. Thanks for sharing.

  • What Great Story, but F#%#@#^%^!!! what an annoying audio track. "TURN THE MUSIC DOWN or Off??" .... adds NO value

  • I’m not sure I can watch this because of the wretched music. Will persist a bit.

  • Incredible, bravo from one mechanical engineer biker to another. You’re on a whole other level mate.... awe inspiring. Inside view of Dakar was epic. Getting to see Manuel as well from Rebel exports was cool :) I keep watching his rally bike preps haha. Respect Lyndon and keep on rolling

Fica o convite !!!! Grande abraço !!!!

  • Incredible! Just finished watching it. Have added a people to lookup to in my 6 year old's scrapbook!

  • stop crying.....................instant nope.

  • Incredable journey , what a wonderful film.

  • You are a legend lyndon.

  • Many thx for these impressive insights. Hard work, tough guys and a good ending. But the music was sometomes annoying

  • Wow, Amazing!

  • Extremely inspirational!! What a hero!

  • can somebody please give the sound mixer a good kick to the nether regions for obscuring so much dialog with electronic noise that was so awful I will not call it music

  • "dig deep and make it happen"

  • What an adventure and achievement! This is how passionate people make this planet a living place. True emotions. Epic! Thanks for sharing!

  • This documentary is epic, it shows Dakar in its true raw form, and this guy Lyndon - hats off to you man! Before watching this documentary I never knew Dakar could be this crazy, and all guys who compete in Malle Moto Class - courage beyond words.

  • Good good 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

  • Yes you are a hero. Greeting from Patagonia Argentina

  • Absolutely epic fair play to you!!

  • Thank You for sharing this wonderful adventure with us. Your enthusiasm & passion are inspiring.

  • How does one afford to do all of this?

  • Who is that hero guy at 53:37 ???

  • My respect to him! Amazing racer, amazing man...

  • Very emotional, I really enjoyed that, well done Lyndon 👍🏻

  • How did a competition bike survived his world trip? (If that where hundreds of miles... The normal EXC engines last maybe 15.000 miles, but only with luck...)

  • Absolutely brilliant. Well done Lyndon and AS for this film. 👍🏻

  • Great job buddy, you gave me a lot of inspiration. Hope you will coming back to Malaysia someday..SALUTE....!!!!!

  • narrated by Ian McMillan? Saw him recently. Very funny

  • It took a while for it To click, but after seeing all the "malle" , I realised you were saying the french word for trunk. I remember reading about the Paris-Dakar when they actually started in Paris. It's really great they kept the original concept. I'm surprised there was some of that Dakar development spirit in there.

  • Another inspiration why I went mallemoto ✊🏻👍🏻

  • At 9 years old i didnt know there where parts stores in town that sold brand new parts to replace broken ....i just figured you had to be smart enough to fix what ever you broke ...and get out the welder grinders drills and files and fix your shit or do wirhout ..it wasnt untill my first bike at age 15 did i learn there are over size pistons made when the carbon build up caused the top ring to cut into the cylinder wall ..and just about like this dude when at age 16 my 1st car dropped a valve ., dad said there is the garage and inside on the work bench is all the tools you will need to make that car of your to run..im like , "but dad how can i" and before i could finish with "do that here" dad would interrupt with " you will boy if you expect to chase anymore of that split tail in town you took liking to before you blowed up your engine

  • well done Lyndon - WELL DONE ! - thanks for beautiful race !

  • Why would you ruin it with the damn mechanical shit music godaam

  • This guy is insane! In all the right ways. Bravo

  • Brilliant video thanks for showing us.👍🇬🇧

  • Couldn't watch due to the constant, annoying music playing over people talking.

  • Lyndon, 2 years late, but your a real hero

  • Amazing testament to the human spirit! One of the best videos ever! Cheers!

  • Watching this a couple years down the line. WHAT A WATCH!!!

  • This is honestly one I’ve the best videos I’ve ever watched on motorcycle riding. So well done, no agenda, just shows a very dedicated & driven guy with a few connections take on Dakar. He’s also a superb rider on a factory bike, good on ya Lyndon! I tell my friends about this one!

  • Amazing story

  • Brother you are a true inspiration! Really happy for what you did and all your sacrifices! I really loved this! Thanks to your team who put this together and for your inspiration! You have really achieved something great for the gift we all have been give to be born on this planet! Cheers to you buddy! God speed!

  • Dam. I think i found my passion. Im a mechanic, rider, chef, idiot and lunatic. Seems like the perfect fit for me 😂

  • Only when you stop living someone else's life and choose to live your own, can you find fulfillment and I believe this is exactly what you did here. Congratulations!

  • Great documentary. Music soundtrack way too intense, though lol

  • Unbelievable adventure man ! great vid

  • This sounds like David atenbourough

  • until you make the decision!! thats the key!

  • Music over the dialog is so annoying its rude and pointless!😉

  • 1,000 km in one day with three hours sleep.

  • Blimey Lyndon your the real deal, sadly there ain't many of your type born very often. I've only just started watching your vids but u def need to be on TV I want my kids watching blokes like u not Marvel characters.

  • Mesmerised by this film, but distracted bt the loud boom, boom, boom music. This brilliant story stands on its own, and doesn't need that background.

  • Amazing and Insperational.

  • great story Dude...Mad respect.. I ride strictly street do it every day love it but more than a few hours of continuous riding on a Cbr600rr in sustained winds, cold, rain, that shit takes a toll on you mentally ...especially when your freezing ur ass off or freezing your ass off while soaked ......And im talking a few hours not over 1000's of miles in 14 days

  • Still a great video and great story. Lyndon you are a super hero. Your toughness and tenacity paired with preparation are unstoppable. I'm so proud to have sent you a few dollars for Africa Eco Race 2020. Enjoy an extra tea or a shower or a shot of vodka on me my friend. I hope we can meet someday! Words cannot express how you bring this to the average person. You are sharing your love of people, and culture, and humans with us in a way that moto journalism has always struggled to do well. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
