Stopped watching at 40min…. The quality of the plot, the acting is horrendous. 🤮👎
In the scene under the bridge where he picks up a package i noticed some really jarring inconsistencies. The first shot of him grabbing the box its just his bare hand, the next shot he has a black cloth wrapped around the box, then the shot after that he has gloves on both hands still carrying the box. pretty noticeable even for me who just tries to enjoy movies
i would love to see more of a truman show type movie for chris
nothing ever beat the moment in saw 1 when john says "The key is in the tub.."
10 mins into this movie I already knew who the new Jigsaw was , that's without looking at any spoilers or reviews before watching this one..So was pissed off after that.. Ruined it for myself 🤣
Yeeees. Saw this the previous night. Just wanted to know what Christ thought of it. I agree that the ebb and flow wasn’t here much like in some other movies. And some other *problems* I had, including the flashbacks. Soooo, spoiler review?
This movie is by far one of the weakest saw movies. I hate leaving cinemas disappointed.
this movie was amateur level, but i wish samuel l jackson was in the original saw movie in 2004 instead of this, im really dissapointed on how bad the fim was
The first 15 minutes made me think this was a bad shot indie film, you can see the plastic painted wire handcuffs in the first trap, so I wasn't hopeful off the bat. I was interested to see Chris Rock's take on my first serious viewing of him in this genre, so I was optimistic. The movie is less than 2 hours if I remember, and the pace of the film definitely matched it. Watching the movie, Chris Rock and SLJ carry the film as much as they could, and only the last 15 minutes of the movie I felt that true decision-making panic of "live or die?" SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS. Besides that, the movie is just lackluster, it had potential, but the new "jigsaw" was painfully obvious, absolutely no one survived a trap which is unfortunate because I like seeing their dynamic change after experiencing the trap, and there were two instances where Chris Rock shows no immediate haste when someone is in danger (I'm referring to when he's walking on his way to basement to save his chief). Also, maybe it's just me, but I had a feeling some victims did successfully complete the trap, yet it continued anyway? This wouldn't be the first time we've seen this in a Saw movie, but usually, the victim yells out "what's going on? I did it!" or something along those lines. It would make sense why that happens, but also can't tell if that's the case or not. Chris Rock doesn't go through the same sense of "trials" as I remembered past Saw movie protagonists go under, but again, those last 15 minutes we see a glimpse of it. Now that I think about it, those last 15 minutes are really the only Saw-relevant feeling scenes in the whole movie. Otherwise, the movie is just a cop trying to find a killer, but being too late to the crime to help the victims until the killer finally involves the man himself into the "game." If you enjoy Saw movies, some of the traps are unique, but overall you might not enjoy the movie.
Chris Rocks having his hat back wards in one of the flash backs… hhaahahah fuck this movie to the moon 😂😂😂
This movie sucks
I hated this movie +CHRIS STUCKMANN I give it I give it a C- gonna do a review soon! It was so brutal, nasty, gory, insane, morbid, extremely dark, and sinisterly vile content! I'll never watch this movie again, maybe one other time with my parents and that will be it. I liked the actors and some of the scenes but not the torture scenes no way, hell noNOOOnoooo!!!!
Chris rock acting skills are underrated & has not evolved .
Spiral is garbage 🗑
If they chose a better lead this would have been a great movie
The whole movie was really boring, don't watch it. Waste of the time.
I just watched Spiral, and it honestly felt like a satire. I liked the revelation of the killer and the motives behind them, but the tone of the movie was a joke. I noticed Stuckmann seemed to be walking on eggshells on this review, but he made his point come across in a polite way, and with respect to the hard work and team effort that goes behind producing a movie. I appreciate that
I saw the twist a mile away it made the movie disappointing for me
chris rocks new partner is the killer becaise a cop killed his dad
i new it was his new young partner right after he was skinned because they dident show his face
my issue when it comes to complicated sequels like this is that half of the experience of the movie will be missed if you don't fully remember the story line. Jigsaw and this one became way late. I'm really excited to go for them but at the same time im feeling like i need to re-watch the whole sequel so im just gonna postpone until it is fully finished
It was an okay movie, but more of an action/thriller kind of movie than true horror. The dark vibe of the previous movies is clearly gone, and just as you said, you always hope that the movie is just as good as the first Saw movie. I was kind of dissappointed the traps were just boring and uninspired, as I always love the ingenuity of them. There was also not a big focus on them indeed. Regardless, a pretty cool movie and it was nice to hear the familiar music again and the last like 10 mins were pretty intense and well done. I always liked that final section in Saw movies when everything is revisited and you are like ooooh dammn, I didnt't expect that. I'm glad at least they kept that intact.
I liked the film, its no SEVEN but thats a top tier film.
I can't believe how obvious this movie was.
Btw, some of the traps are maybe the best in the series. Especially the first 2.
If you wanna make a "who done it" Saw movie that actually keeps you guessing right to the end, then: 1. Don't hire an actor that always plays villains. 2. Don't make the false kill and NOT show the trap I suspected the guy based on his prevous roles, but especially when he borrowed the Zeke's phone.
I knew who was the killer the first scene since they already played a similar role in another movie. The twist was too obvious too.
Personally thought the movie was sub par and you could tell it was trying but it just didn't feel anything like a saw movie, more like a spin off. I don't think Chris Rock was the right choice for the film because I couldn't take him seriously and the grizzled cop thing doesn't work on him. The traps were pretty lame, not enough time spent on them, they if anything tried to hurry those scenes up, despite the fact that the original films Made you sit through it as the person struggled with the pain and had pressure on them to get out or whatever or they'd die horrifically. This film didn't seem to want to spend much time on the traps it felt very much like a "you know how this goes, so anyway.." kind of thing. The tension, suspense and feel of the film wasn't right, the pacingfelt off and actuallygot me, too slow, I felt kinda bored and wasn't invested in the characters or intrested in the killer as the killer is dull, boring and vanilla. The ending was terrible and even laughable. And wasn't much of a twist or reveal and didn't deserve the classic saw music playing at the end. I watched this with my dad and he said, it's basically a revenge film but with saw stuff in it and I agree. If you read all of my rambling thanks xx ^-^
Honestly these new directors, that come out with stupid endings. Should have just been swallowed when they were liquid form.
I assume the flash back scenes are from Samuel L Jackson’s (Marcus’) POV. Hence why when Zeke leaves the room, we continue with the scene still in the room involving Marcus.
Dont watch army of the dead .... you will hate yourself .... lol ... zack easted the opportunity to make a good movie ... hope the other projects are way better ... the camera use was just stupid .... anyways you may still watch as there is nothing else to watch lol
His partner supposedly dead but he never contact the wife and kid and never met them etc ... yea yea . .. real dumb ...
Sorry stuckman ... it is simple .... this movie is stupid .... it easy to figure out who the killer was ... plus on the end that was stupid ... he never killed the killer ... he could have and saved his dad as well ... he could have saved the female cop ... call someones cell pho e at the precint etc ... his dad could have called him when he got the text to make sure etc .... writing stupid ... real cops dont make those stupid mistakes
I need spiral 2
This is my fave
The WORST saw film to date, in my opinion.
I thought the movie was good for what it was
Watching this movie was excruciating.. The acting was disappointing and the whole movie is frustrating
meh, it was watchable. The deaths were pretty damn brutal and Sam Jackson stole the show the two times he was on screen.
I thought Chris Rock was very bad in this movie. I like him as comedian but, in this case, he just didn't have the chops to carry the movie. Every time he spoke loud, I kind of expected his co-stars to burst into laughter. The direction is also terrible: Bousman spend years making thrillers, and the guy still doesn't know how to create tension. Even the traps were uninspired, except for the tongue one at the beginning. When even the traps don't work, is time to retire the franchise for good.
Movie was garbage just recycled ♻️ 🗑
The plot line felt too rushed to me and the tone choices just made the whole thing just feel kinda silly imo
This movie left me with a huge. Ha/ sigh... 🤔. It was almost like I was In denial from the beginning
I thought this will be a hillariocity review...
Chris Rock looked constipated every time he was trying to be ‘serious’ and was pretty atrocious
you still watch these films because of youtube
Chris Rock has a voice of supporting character. I didn't buy him as a main guy.
Is this 7even of 2021 ?
This movie was such pure garbage! This wasn’t even a saw movie, such terrible acting and terrible story
This movie sucks so hard, Chris Rock can't act at all. Also, the rookie cop is the villain.
I loved it! I thought it was great.
I waited so long for this to come out and it sucked. Big reveal bad guy was predictable af nearly from the start I knew who it was. Traps looked good I'll give it that (aside the glass shooter). But the ending is just awful. And there's no relation to other movies. For some reason I expected to see characters like Logan Nelson, Hoffman or Daniel Matthews but nope just a kid who liked jigsaw style (not even idolizing him ) n decided : yeah ill mimic jigsaw for my revenge on dirty cops. Honestly if there was no spiral symbols pig masks and Jhon Kramer name mentioned twice it would just be a casual horror movie
Just saw the movie last night. I feel like the idea of the movie was top notch and excellent. But the execution was terrible.
Hit the nail on the head with this review I completely agree with what you say about going to see every Saw hoping it will be the first one. How hard would it be for them to come up with a similar idea of 2 or a group of people trapped in a room together and have the mystery behind it like the first? I don't want to watch Saw for the detectives. I did enjoy Chris Rock though and hope he continues to branch out like this
Rock is a terrible dramatic actor just can't take him seriously same in fargo had to stop watching both, pity.
Good one :)
I love you Chris, but this WAS a bad movie. A through and through, BAD movie 👎I'm shocked that anyone thinks differently. The ending was telegraphed, there were no stakes at the end, and the final sequence actually had me cracking up and that's not what I go to these movies for. I was laughing at the characters, but they weren't in on the joke.
Worst saw movie i miss Robin and billy
the pacing was decent , ending was a little abrupt it was not bad 6/10 for me the whole mystery was pretty cliche from the get go though so it lowered my overall enjoyment,it did not keep me guessing they wanted to subvert the viewers who is behind it but it was pretty fore front and generic and loss alot of impact due to jigsaws games not having much intricate details like many of the other films but it was decent overall
this movie sucked.
You know...one thing that left me to question. So...if Jigsaw was supposed to be a "sequel", then...how is Spiral NOT considered a prequel? There's a lot of bridged gaps that don't feel like they're pieced together in this franchise. A lot of people are probably the most confused upon seeing this movie.
I miss the old saw movies.
the ending was my favourite part; it was satisfying and honestly this is the only time i will side with the villain because the police department is fucked lol
I don't like how this is suppose to be a horror movie, and I'm thinking we're suppose to take Chris Rock serious but they start his scene with him basically doing fucking stand up wtf?
Desperately bad, sad because Max Minghella is a great actor. Chris Rock looked very strange, squinting at everyone and everything. Awful film, sad to say.
This movie wasn’t very good. It’s incredibly choppy and the twist, if you call it that, can be seen from a mile away.
The movie was trash. Chris rock was good, but the jigsaw voice was weak. The franchise is over
If its all 11s, there cant be any 12s
Number one thing you need for any piece of art to work is contrast. For music that could be fast and slow, or loud and quit. For a painting that could be light and dark, or textured and smooth. If you have a painting where everything is close to the same tone it's just flat.
Spiral: Where cartoon characters get to be in a live action film. Definitely the worst of the Saw franchise. 👎
This movie is strange to me I love Chris in this movie giving a good performance but the direction doesn’t really do the story justice you can really tell Bousman has directed Saw before cause of how the story unfolds especially at the end and the fucking hyper editing effect from the older movies sucks the story was good but the twist was way too obvious the thing that saved this from a being a total wreck was the performances, story, the traps and the ending was actually pretty cool
I actually liked the ending of it. no complicated machinery, plain and simple.
If give it 6 out of 10 because I expect more to be honest 😭
Movie was garbage. I liked it till the last 15 mins and then they ruined it. Plus it was way too easy to figure out. Extremely easy to figure out.
This is easily one of the worst movies of the last couple of years. The Plottwist was so damn obvious and everything was so unreasonable and forced. Fuck this movie.
Idk why they were so secretive.....the ending wasn't a big twist...kinda obvious...at least in terms of using a pretty old and obvious movie trope.
Who else figured out the Jigsaw wannabe's identity after the 1st 30 mins?
Chris Rock pulls it off?? Dude every time he tries to look serious he just pops his eyes out xp really amateuristic...
We have seen SAW movies with corrupted everyday people, needing lessons. Then corrupted cops, using their powers to abuse. We need a SAW movie for Jigsaws themselves. How they choose the targets, how they engineer the traps, etc.
Save yourself the outrageous early $20 rental fee. The only actor that didn’t embarrass themselves was Samuel L Jackson. Even when he phones it in we’d all watch him. Chris Rock said. every. word. super. slow. and at the same time somehow said all his lines with his jaw wired shut and eyes fully squinted. The saw voice was really hard to listen to. It sounded like a 14ry old on the intercom at a drive through. The rest of the actors were terrible. Especially the over acting lady captain that was completely unbelievable in that role. She walked around yelling over the top statements/orders at people or sounded like she was reading a book with over exaggerated hand gestures. It’s like they spent all the money on Samuel L Jackson so they just went and hired a porn actress to play her. You know who the killer is about 3 minutes in. Not guessing, you full on just know. The story was ridiculous and not compelling in any way. It was predictable, sad and you spend the whole time being embarrassed for everyone involved to care what happens. I love this genre and this series in particular and I was excited to see it but if you can’t tell, I’m extremely disappointed. The fact that they charge so much to rent (not buy) that garbage is enraging. I’ve never been so annoyed after a “movie”.
I honestly feel like Chris was really really reaaally being nice in this critic about this movie, he really wanted to be nice, aww shame, sounded like a SAW fan trying to find the good in a terrible SAW movie, some redeemable something ..lol
I'm excited for the cast! Bummer that it's not that good though
You sure you are a saw fan dude. This movie was horrible. Chris Rock and Samuel just belong in these types of films. This felt like a comedy esp when Chris just opens his mouth. There is no way people were no rolling their eyes when he opened his mouth. The only reason I stick till the end of the movie was just for the plot twist and even that was horrible. In general the movie had great ideas but the casting choice just made it a major flop and hard to take this movie seriously. Saw has always been about dark mystery with really dark characters, the spiral was a joke.
This is probably the worst film ive seen in a decade, or its definitely up there
Chris: I am going to be seeing Army Of The Dead this week. I’m really looking forward to seeing that. Me: 😬
Funny, ngl I already know and guess who's the killer is from the start
I really like Chris rock too but his “serious brooding” or “angry” face he makes in the movie cracked me up ngl.
Lol it was the face for me 🤣
I saw the twist in movie. Coming a mile away
ngl this movie sucked
They need to bring back the escape rooms style like Saw 2, the superior Saw film. I had the killer and bad cop figured out by the middle of the film, if not sooner.
Chris Rock as a serious detective....can’t buy...sorry. Sam L. Cashing another check with limited effort.
The movie was good, I loved Chris Rock and Samuel, it's just the reveal for me, I just don't like the revenge plot that much, I wish they brought back Hoffman or Gordan despite their ages. My personal opinion is I think they should've made the killer as an apprentice or something then at the end revealed Hoffman or Gordan. I understand they wanted a different direction as the name of the movie is just "Spiral" and without Saw in it. I respect them for it, but I'm just disappointed, I would rate it 6/10.
besides just assuming that the skin with the tattoo in the box is the partner's why wouldn't they make a DNA test? police procedure, no? ok, i guess it makes sense because everything in the movie is so badly done
The gray greasy great daffodil ectrodactyly fax because sprout electrophysiologically transport atop a childlike dinosaur. sharp, glamorous call
This movie was cop tropes the movie. Chris Rock is not a good actor out of comedy. The movie is awful.
It’s absolute Shite like all the saw films such a tired bunch of films
I couldn't even finish this flick...was that unbearable. And that's coming from a guy that genuinely enjoys rewatching 'the Room' under my own free will
