  • Such a lovely and rare human being. Best wishes Ms Osaka.

  • What is news about a kid with a Japanese parent being able to understand Japanese? Speaking it, is another matter entirely. I'd feel a bit nervous about speaking my mother tongue. Osaka certainly looks Japanese enough to pass a one in Japan.

  • 🐾

  • Puta vergonha e safadeza, não fala nem o idioma japonês e quer defender a nação da mãe, pura vergonha

  • She definitely doesn’t speak Japanese at a conversational level here. From her sentence structure to pronunciation it is clear she is beginning to learn

  • Oh, she doesn't speak Japanese.

  • “Ojiichan is my ojiichan…” should be a meme

  • This is so embarrassing. I hope the Japanese disown her completely

    • @Dave Sinaga she is representing Japan in the olympics but doesn't know basic Japanese

    • Why embarassing? Relax bro 😂😂

  • She doesn't speak any japanese

  • Cringe

  • Cringe.

  • Who the hell wants to claim us

  • This is so embarrasing lool why cant she speak japanese without saying something in english every two words...

  • She is definitely high class white person and not ghettos or ratchet at all 😆 go Naomi ❤️

    • @Chloe Chloe But she is not white sooooo what do you mean?

    • Yes, don’t u think so? 😉

    • High class white person?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

  • Okay I think she’s a bit boring when she speaks. And all the ummms take forever but very brave girl

  • The graceful february hemperly clear because rainstorm progressively follow after a highfalutin key. selective, childlike geometry

  • Japanese don't like black people. But Naomi is different because she is a champion.

  • Lol awesome. I love when bilingual kids answer in English.

  • I'm just here to see how she is handling all the interviews. Yup, this girl is definitely uncomfortable dealing with strangers ...poor gal

  • Shy and nervous, something is bothering her, not surprised she pulled out of press conference. She needs psychological help.

  • She even doesn´t speaks japanese and play for Japan? So I was wondering why japanese people does not recognize the nissei and sansei (decasseguis) from Brazil? There are many that can speak japanese!

    • @Fran Fran surface level

    • @Topermot well, she was also born there, so... there's that

    • The thing about all mix kids in japan, is that they are never truly accepted as a japanese. Parts of her heritage is accepted but even many mixed kids who are born and raised in Japan are still seen as mix rather than a japanese. But I think shes earned her recognition in Japan and playing for Japan isn't just about the language. Shes technically a japanese national now.

  • even that white dude speaks better Japanese

    • @AA What did her father study in Japan, he seems to have turned to tennis coaching after moving from Japan to US ?

    • @James Smythe well theres a whole bunch of japanese people from her japanese side of the family at her tennis matches since she was a little girl. So they clearly didnt disown her. Almost ever black person that moves to Japan finds a Japanese spouse or partner. It isnt hard at all when the country is 98% japanese(127 million).

    • @James Smythe uhhhh theres lots of africans and black people that seek refuge or move to Japan. Believe it or not that’s actually a better country to live in for black people than America because it isnt a white country so the levels of racism are not the same.

    • @AA What was her father doing in Japan, very unusual to see a Black Haitian going to Japan to study and then get married to a local Japanese girl, normally US is the most popular destination? Was it an arranged marriage, like West and Kardashian ? I read that when he got married his wife’s Japanese mother, father grand father and other relatives refused to speak to her they effectively disowned her !

    • And will never be Japanese

  • Congratulations, Naomi. You are a true champion. I'm asking this question in a respectful manner, why did you choose to become a Japanese citizen, yet live in Florida? Please respond. Thank you, kindly.

    • Naomi was born in Japan, and her mother is a Japanese national. That is how she became a citizen. Her family lives in Florida and she lives with her family.

  • Bro she fine

  • Aligator aligator

  • Naomi 👎🤮👎💩👎

  • You can definitely see the Japanese side in her personality and demeanour.

    • Her features too

    • I mean her facial features are the japanese side too.

    • @spiidey1 she seems nervous very self conscious, it must be hard for her in Japan

    • I think thats what makes her more adorable, compared to the brashness of American women.

  • あなたはテニス🎾がとても上手な女性ですね。

  • I'm in love with this young lady

  • She may be half Japanese, but she still black and acts more black than Japanese and only acts Japanese when its convenient for her. Double standard and she thinks she knows everything about Americans. 彼女は日本人の半分かもしれませんが、それでも彼女は黒人で、日本人よりも黒く振る舞い、都合の良いときにだけ日本人を演じます。 二重基準であり、彼女はアメリカ人についてすべてを知っていると思います。

  • How can she represent Japan if she does not speak the language?

  • Naomi is fine as she is regardless of language she speaks.

  • That's really weird yo be of Japanese citizenship but not speak Japanese. I am half, but grew up American and do not speak. I can also understand a bit, but have to answer in English.

    • it’s not weird because she didn’t grow up in japan lol. Plus I don’t think her parents taught her as well so there’s that

    • She did not grow up there...

  • She does not even speak good japanese.. what kind of stupid girl moves her nationality to Japanese without even speak that language?? Ridiculous..!

  • why don't she learn Japanese?

  • wow shes so humble and shy..

  • Japonesa?.. las pelotas del marrano, esa mujer es estadounidense

  • Bruh, she doesn't speak Japanese... she is more American than Japanese

  • How crazy this world is, she's "Japanese" but can't speak the language.

  • Is good you speak your language

  • She said “Thank you very much for rooting/cheering for me” in Japanese to her grandparents and other member(s) of her family.

  • I think she didn't learn Japanese well because her parents got her to train in tennis more. However, I do believe they should have sent her to Japanese school if they wanted her to represent Japan.

  • It´s sad she doesn´t speak Japanese, considering both her parents speak it perfectly.

    • @HOLLYWOOD BIG DADDY TRIPS quiet down

    • She's a moron

    • I was kind of hoping she would’ve spoken more Japanese in the clip...I think she probably can understand more than she’s able to reiterate. I mean, I kind of get it, she’s a huge athlete and perhaps doesn’t have to time to learn it fluently, but I just feel like just come on why r u switching to English just try doesn’t matter if it doesn’t come out the greatest.

  • She cant speak the language of the country she represents? She owes all her success to having lived in the U.S. That's the only country she should be representing. The fact that she chose another country even though she was born there but only lived there for less than a fraction tells me more about her attitude towards this country.

    • @peacekeeperbabe she is not fluent in Japanese. Here she has to intersperse English with her Japanese which is not a sign of being fluent. It’s like when Hispanics speak Spanish with a English in interspersed. Both are indications of lack of fluency. The wiki page I’m reading says that the decision was already made that she would play for Japan long before anything related to a supposed disinvite. It doesn’t say the US did not invite her but didn’t show any interest. That happens all the time. “Although Osaka was raised in the United States, her parents decided that their daughters would represent Japan. They said, ‘We made the decision that Naomi would represent Japan at an early age. She was born in Osaka and was brought up in a household of Japanese and Haitian culture. Quite simply, Naomi and her sister Mari have always felt Japanese so that was our only rationale. It was never a financially motivated decision nor were we ever swayed either way by any national federation.’ This decision may have also been motivated by a lack of interest from the United States Tennis Association (USTA) when Naomi was still a young player. The USTA later offered Naomi the opportunity to train at their national training center in Boca Raton when she was 16 years old, but she declined.”

    • In this clip; Naomi speaks Japanese. She is asked she relationship 2 the people she named; & answered in English. According 2 Wikipedia page; America declined having Naomi play as their representative. Japan did not.

    • @ben ban What part of this did you not get? It is very clear what I wrote. If your response is "What?" then you have some serous reading comprehension issues. Help me out here. Are you seriously clueless about what I wrote or is this a "How could you say such a thing?" type of what?

    • What?

  • I agree with you 100% it's just it's just the way for people to lose their Heritage and their true culture remember the U .S doesn't have any culture America is a mix of many different races I mean if you go to California and Texas there's a Latin culture because let's be honest and used to belong to them right so you do have a lot of white people in actually I'm African Americans influenced by Latin people in those particular States but you're right people get shamed by using their language I remember speaking Spanish and white people and actually African Americans tell me to speak American your in America so it's kind of like a deterrent I used to get me so upset especially at the African Americans cuz I used to have to remind them that they came over here on slave ships not at their own will

  • She can't even speak Japanese ...

    • Ok? Shes still a Yamato

  • I’m as Japanese as she is

  • Shes shy girl.... shes cute

  • so cute

  • oh cringeworthy.... :(

  • Fake Japanese riding on the nationality for her own gains.

  • 彼女は日に日に、更に日本人らしく成っていますね。

  • She looks Japanese with a brown skin.

    • @diesel not that dark bro. Tan yes whenever they travel to Hawaii or California. But not dark tan.

    • Why are you so surprised ? That's exactly the combination where she comes from. Dark American dad, native Japanese mum (as there are also different colours of Japanese people nowadays before anyone starts).

    • Lol..A brown rice ball ..Japanese can be very dark skinned also

  • Such cute ladies! The staff

  • I'm currently visiting the city of Osaka, Japan 💖

    • @Ale Sh that’s not what they’re talking about. Naomi Ōsaka’s mother is FROM Osaka...

    • Naomi’s last name is written with a different character as the city ......

  • Black + Asian. Can't go wrong.

  • Whenever I hear people speak Japanese it makes me laugh. It sounds like a joke or comedy, not a language.

  • i love watching naomi .bec of her good example..very humble..and really good in tennis..i wish i can watch her live someday..love u naomi..

  • Asians and blacks are strong genes

  • Naomi is bilingual that's amazing.

  • wtf she is not japanese )))

  • She’s too cute for words 😍

  • Naomi is so adorable

  • And i thought her dad was japanese haha.

  • I don't mean to be offensive, but why doesn't she open her mouth?

  • half asians half black stars are smarter and more athletic

  • She articulates herself like a 10 year old. I want her to know she’s beautiful and it’s ok to be confident

  • This was two years ago, yet people claim the Japanese didn't care about her until she won. From what I've heard she was well known among Tennis fans.

    • @Dave Sinaga Yes, I totally agree he should just focus on his own career and give other players the chance to win Olympics. To most pro tennis players, Olympics gold is just an extra bonus because it doesn’t offer any prize money nor ranking points. You do notice that many of the world’s best players simply skipped Tokyo Olympics because US Open is coming up. Djokovic chose to compete anyway because he is doing it for the “honor” of representing Serbia but honestly I don’t believe he is putting in his best effort.

    • @Jason Tu if not important then why he has to play for Serbia? why not give other players a chance to fill his slots? since 2008 he has represented Serbia at the Olympic Games and has not yet presented a gold medal for his country. In my opinion if he always fails to give a gold medal for Serbia he should give other players a chance instead of wasting his energy in participating in the event.

    • @Dave Sinaga Djokovic won 20 Grand Slam titles and earned $150M+ just in prize money, not including endorsement deals. Why would he even need an Olympic medal at all? When it comes to tennis, the most prestigious titles are the major Grand Slams not Olympics.

    • @Jason Tu lol Djokovic never won Gold Medal in Olympic but still he's one of the greatest of all the time, your argument so ridiculous 🤣🤣

    • That is the story of the US.

  • OMG!! She looks almost Asian. What's happening ?

  • Felicitaciones Naomi Osaka y al pueblo Japonés.

  • wait...so she doesn't speak Japanese???

    • @ABC its a different world.

    • @Chillis Your parents were also lazy and raised you as an idiot. She's a world tennis champion; who cares if she's not a bilingual?

    • @stewjd76 yh because her parents were lazy and didnt put efford to teach her good enough

    • qonyta ?????

    • she does

  • It's wierd to watch white guy speak Japanese

    • What an ignorant comment

  • This bitch is dumb, she can’t even speak it. My son already absolutely fluent. She’s a fail

  • Very respectful, I like her a lot.

  • I’m Haitian and proud 🇭🇹

  • NOTICE ONE THING WHEN NAOMI SPEAK SHE DOESN'T OPEN HER TEETH THEY ARE ALWAYS CLOSE I THINK CAUSE SHE DOESN'T WANT SPIT GERM'S TO COME OUT OF HER MOUTH MAY BA GOOD MANOR OR MAY BE SHE WANT'S TO SOUND LIKE BABY DON'T KNOW YET.

    • Fastest Indian some people can say the stupidest things.

  • That white guy looks like he doesn't belong there...

    • Moshe Newsletter Lol fuck off tennis if you hate white people. It’s a thoroughly European sport.

    • White people always put there noises into everyone business.....I fucking hate white people, someone need kick him off stage

  • I'm glad she defeated that arrogant Serena Willams. Great job!

    • arrogant?

    • True tho, but imagine if she were an Habesha :P

    • Arrogant or assured in her skill?

    • go to hell, I like them both.

    • Seekthetruth3000 hahha its funny that lioness you called her arrogant achieved in life more than your entire family generation had achieved...being emotional isnt arrogonce ..

  • She's only 18 here.

  • Naomi is such a graceful champion, why can't she play for America? We are so tired of Serena being a sore loser

    • Thomas Donohue don't watch it then.

    • Because her father justly calculated that she would have more chances when representing Japan. She happens to have turned out an excellent player, but if she hadn't made it to the top there would have been many thousands of American girls to compete with.

    • Because Japan is where she is born and likes anime.

  • shes an original and a star! give her a break who cares if she doesn't speak Haitian French or Japanese, she's on a huge learning curve and she is and athlete! that is her expression

    • Haitien French????haha wtf !

    • *Haitian Creole

    • She unterstand perfect japanese and she does not need translator

    • William Short btw the proper terminology is creole but Haitian French works as well

  • i think she grew up in US from a young age

  • Very cool thanks

  • I wonder if she speaks Haitian Creole since her father is a Haitian man and she stated that she was raised in a Haitian household?

    • YAll are some insecure mofos.

    • @TheNatatanga agreed

    • I see her as equally Japanese as she is Haitian. I grew up valuing my mother just as much as my father. I do think they should include her Haitian heritage more though. I think they only refer to her as Japanese because that's the country she is officially playing for, she was born in Japan and is officially Japanese by citizenship (albeit dual). But she is still also half Haitian culturally and genetically.

    • @DailyDoseofDaniella The media is lame anyways. Fuck the media. Let's go naomi, team naomi all the way!

    • Not sure what your question is eluding to but I can bet she does since I also have Haitian in me and lived in a Haitian household. If you examine my comment a little further it is apparent to me that she is black with some Asian features. I always grew up knowing that you are what your father is. So to me she is Haitian. However Haitian Japanese is fine too. I just don't appreciate the media leaving her Haitian heritage out of her success. Did that answer your question?

  • Proud of Osaka Japan & Haiti with all love :)

  • i thought japanese don't like black people, how comes her black father married a japanese woman?

    • Very sweet, respectful , dedicated, family-oriented and humble. Go Naomi!!!

    • They don't but having her as the spokesperson for Japanese tennis might change all that. It's a good thing she's representing Japan.

    • Lui Chen I knew Japan is not racist but, I've heard of racism in China. So I guess that's wh he said that. Japan's a great country!

    • Wow you’re so slow LOL

    • @Calvince, We like ''black'' people alot but like westerners we dont place emphasis on race..her that is hatian and that what she is half '' what ''black'' is just some vague term. Her culture and background is Japanese and Hatian not Japanese and Black. No one sais i am half Yellow and half Hatian so why say ''black'' ? We love hatians, afro americans , ghanians, kenyans, brazilians everybody. Dont think majoriy of us japanese are racist because we are not at all. Many japense would like to marry a foreigner like her father. Japenese are proud of her, her father, her mother and sister for who they are not because of some ''race''.

  • She's such a beautiful talented Queen love her

    • Queen ??? WTF

    • +ADHD - I love Naomi, but "queen" ? Really? A bit delusional are we?

  • Blasians are taking over.

    • Racism is poisoning the planet

    • @AA She is a Royal Nubian Princess

    • @Me Only yes she is she is half Yamato. She is Nihongo which is Japanese and was born there

    • @RazielBorn Uhhh, right. 😂

    • @Lifepiphany don't fear the inevitable.

  • Ai Sugiyama!!!

  • I really dislike when parents dont teach their children their mother tongue

    • @DumbCaliSucks what about Asia America, Europe Asia or maybe Australia Asia ? many of them also speak English and are not fluent in their mother tongue and most people assume they are still part of Asia.

    • @Calvin Brown Her mother is literally from Japan.

    • @Ebony Smith That’s because you are very stupid

    • Me too! I never understood it!

    • @Nena Lopez You're an idiot as well. Why do you care if someone is a bilingual or not?

  • twitter.com/LunionSuite/status/1038310880155496448 Naromi Osaka saying she is haitian

  • 🥇🏆

  • How does one person represent a country of a language she can't speak? : S

    • George George You clearly failed to comprehend anything I said. I never once disputed her prowess as an athlete, but it IS a fact that she played for Japan because there was less competition. All because she became successful, doesn’t mean she showed much indication that she would when she was young. Hence why she played for Japan.

    • US Tennis declined to sponsor her. So having dual citizenship and the fact that Japan is weak in the sport, she got them to sponsor her, even though she is basically illiterate in Japanese.

    • She can. Looks like she speaks more Japanese than we give her credit for. In this ESmain video, you will see Naomi speaking Japanese multiple times, as they cover her life story... esmain.info/goal/v-deo/kH6LbZapetWUjdE

    • Joey Jojo Trump represents the USA and he barely can put a sentence together.

    • Have you been experiencing being haifu in japan ? Unnecessary hardship by outdated prejudice ... like her as individual ... then any other else

  • Japanese taking all the pride and credit, though we all know that the power for playing tennis comes from her Black African Haitian side....It's her dad who introduced her to Tennis. One funny thing is that white Americans hate their fellow American just because she's black and prefer a Japanese who is all in all still half black. But why do they hate Obama who is half white??.....Very Funny

    • Speak for yourself. After All blacks have that we are better then everyone else mentality lmfaoo

    • Fun fact: when I worked in Africa I worked with a Kenyan who could not run around a city block on account that he was fat. Sure there is a sub-sect of Kenyans born with specific genes that make them the world's best long distance runners, but we are still talking less then 1 out of 1000 Kenyans. Likewise Naiomi is an individual the product of a one of a kind genetic combination, and parenting and training to be a world class tennis player, she is not representative of all Japanese, all Haitians, all Haitian-Japanese hybrids, blacks, etc, she represent only her self... and maybe her parents, someone congratulate her parents, not simply for fucking, but for raising her and pushing her through tennis schooling. Base Bentham, If a person with Down's syndrome and a person without Down's syndrome lived identical lives, would they have the same IQ? Yes of course how one is raised will affect one's aptitude, but biology is also a factor.

    • Eh OK They won the world cup

    • Gibbs Jakatiga Look no further than the US for racism.

    • Her dad didnt do shit. It's her own skills fuck nut. Always trying to claim shit, fuck you.

  • She can’t speak Japanese cause her Mom was lazy and didn’t take the time to teach her. She only understands a few phrases.... could not actually watch a movie or carry on a conversation. The joke here is that she plays for Japan and doesn’t speak the language or know the culture as she grew up American.

    • graftonreed She does understand Japanese but doesn’t speak well. At least she can speak daily conversation though. I’m half French and half Japanese, but I was born and raised in Japan so my French is awful anyway her dad speaks Japanese like natives which is funny

    • The misguided ignorance you people display regarding her race and nationality is alarmingly unnerving.

    • Ironically it's NOT that the mom was lazy. She actually took the hard way by raising a child in a language not her own.

    • @Graftonreed - Looks like she speaks more Japanese than we give her credit for. In this ESmain video, you will see Naomi speaking Japanese multiple times, as they cover her life story... esmain.info/goal/v-deo/kH6LbZapetWUjdE

    • That happens all the time counties scout talent from the whole world that somehow are connected to their country by blood or citizenship, if i was in America my kids could be called to play for Angola or Portugal or England since I have nationality for all of them

  • Shut up stupid people, mind your own business!

  • Well, her mom never spoke japanese to her that's for sure.

    • Thomas Kooiker I’m studying for the N3 this December. I’ve never lived in Japan so my speaking abilities are pretty low in comparison to my comprehension. I’ve been in similar situations were my tutor asks me questions in Japanese and I am only able to express my answer in English even through I understood there Japanese.

    • @Philippe Charles It's definitely a step up here indeed! Thanks for the link

    • Fairly fluent and functional in Japanese (jlptN2) and speak it daily with my wife. I have to say her japanese inproved a lot in more recent video's.

    • Thomas Kooiker she actually understands Japanese very well and my guess is because her mother spoke it to her. I’m not sure if you speak a second language but from my experience learning Japanese I can understand way more of the language than I can speak. Since she grew up in the US she most likely did not have many opportunities to speak outside of her house. I think if she lives in Japan for a few years she’ll be speaking like a native in no time.

    • Hi Thomas - In this ESmain video, you will see Naomi speaking Japanese multiple times, as they cover her life story... esmain.info/goal/v-deo/kH6LbZapetWUjdE

  • kudasai kudasai kudasai!

  • Her Haitian dad speaks perfect Japanese though.

    • @сладкий медвежонок Obama is half Kenyan

    • @Moshe Newsletter not at all what are you on🤣

    • @Moshe Newsletter Hell no they cant even speak English or French properly they can't pronounce

    • @Matthew Henderson tiger isn't really black.

    • @сладкий медвежонок, Tiger isn’t half of anything!!

  • What a sneaky move Japanese media using osaka for endorsement. Naomi is half Japanese i understand but she thinks of herself as American grew up n trained in US soil. Juss because she plays fot Japan shes not Japanese also lot of discrimination n racism towards half Japanese people in Japan. This is unacceptable

    • @HWEALTH MEDIA She is american you dumbass. Folks are Haitian but I was born in the US. I am American.

    • mr slick LMAO I dare you tell that to Naomi herself. She's the one who chose to represent Japan, put her name in Japanese writing in her twitter profile, and use a twitter profile pic with a Japanese flag in it. What "thinks of herself as American grew up n trained in US soil"? She clearly thinks of herself as Japanese as well.

    • Yes and of course I'm sure you would consider someone with one English parent who moved out of England when they were 3, and who can't speak English, as a fellow Englishmen wouldn't you? lmao. She probably chose to represent Japan because of the advertisement money. Nishikori is the second most paid player because of advertisements despite the fact that hes never even won a grand slam.

    • She can't, she's American, and so are her parents.

    • Her dad actually chose USA at first for her but USA turned away so Japan was the next option and Japan gives him more sponsor for her to practice
